Papamoa Women Pullar Cup Win

The Pullar Cup

Sunday 27 September 2009 saw Papamoa take their triple crown, winning the Puller Cup in Whakatane. (Although they very nearly didn’t)!

Whakatane were a determined side and although Papamoa scored first through Olivia Chance, Whakatane kept fighting and partway through the first half they scored.  Then with renewed enthusiasm they came back hard and fast from the restart and shortly again scored leaving the Whakatane crowd cheering and the Papamoa crowd holding their heads.  But the Papamoa girls were not about to give up and when Olivia again found herself with the ball at her feet in front of the goal she wasn’t about to miss.  This made the ½ time score even with 2 each.

Both coaches gave their teams a hard talking and when play restarted both sides had equal determination to take the match.  With both teams hitting the crossbar or the goalkeepers doing some brilliant saves it was safe to say that the game could have gone either way.

When the Referee signalled 2 minutes left it looked like we were heading for extra time, but Papamoa’s continued determination won in the end and with 1 minute on the clock it was Amanda Ferraris’ turn to get onto the score sheet and clinch the title for Papamoa. Final score 3-2 Papamoa.  This was a great match and showcased the talent in Women's football in the Bay.  Well done to both teams.

Sundays win sees Papamoa Ladies  secure the Federation Cup, The Bay Ladies League and the Puller cup.  A wonderful season for them, especially as the Cub also won the Waikato Bay of Plenty Federation Club of the Year trophy.  Next year will see the Ladies move up a league in to the Northern Division.
