The first ever Papamoa Derby kicked of on Park # 2 with a large crowd gathered wondering if it was going to be the youger legs of Pap FC or the older wiser heads of Pap Raingers that would come out on top ?
The game kicked off with the teams very evenly matched , both defences firmly on top for the opening 25 minutes and neither goalkeeper being overly troubled .
It took almost 30 minutes for Pap FC to finally break the dealock , The tireless Greg Anton fighting hard for possesion and slipping a clever through ball for Wayne who took one touch and shot from 20 yards , the ball came crashing back off the crossbar and was bravely headed home by the in rushing Daniel " The beast " Anton !!
This seemed to spur the Raingers team into life with Matt " Squeaky " Raybould leading the way throwing himself ( and there's a fair bit of him ! ) into a few cruching tackles , before long Tony V and a very chatty Ian Heath had worked an opening for the Away team , the ball finding its way to the feet of Sid Waters who's quick turn and shot tested the reactions of the Pap Fc keeper Craig Martin .. who was upto the task !.
Half time came and went with everything still to play for , Pap FC making 3 changes , Shane , Daniel & Craig making way for Ian , Stu R and Pogo boy himself Joey McKenzie..
Stewarts first involvment was to launch a huge punt upfield that Joey took a great first touch on and smashed an unstoppable right foot drive past the Raingers keeper 2 - 0 Pap FC ... most of the game was now being playing in the middle 3rd with Pap FC trying to close out the game and Raingers trying to carve an opening to get themselves back into the contest ....with time running out Pap FC won another corner on the right hand side , Tristan and Wayne took a quick short corner and the latter swung the ball over to the edge of the Raingers penalty aera where Pap FC captain Simon Helm was waiting to thunder a low drive into the bottom corner of the Raingers net ( a bit harsh on Steve Baldry in the Raingers goal who had had a cracking game ! )
With that the game finished 3-0 to Papamoa FC .. |
